The Western part of Arunachal has many picturesque treks to offer to the intrepid trekker. One such is the Bhangajyang lakes trek, traversing through the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. This region is dotted with numerous glacial lakes, many of which will leave you spellbound, during the course of our trek. Our trail takes us through remote, picturesque landscapes, tread only by the Brokpas – a herding community, who bring their yaks here to graze. Along the way, Gorichen and Kangto – the highest peaks in Arunachal Pradesh, brace us with their snowbound beauty.

Day 1Guwahati to Orang

Pickup from Guwahati airport and drive to Orang. O/n at Kanoka Village Resort or similar

Day 2Orang to Dirang

Today we continue our drive to Dirang via the scenic Kalaktang – Shergaon road. Relax for the remainder of the day. O/n Hotel Pemaling or similar

Day 3Trek: Lubrang to Naga GG

After breakfast drive up for an hour to the village of Lubrang (2828 m) inhabited by the Brokpa community.

From here we start our trek - steadily climbing up through temperate forests peppered with rhododendrons. All through you hear the whistling of birds. Set camp at a big grazing meadow interlaced by streams. O/n in tents

Day 4Trek: Naga GG to Sange GG

The trail starts with a steep one hour climb through hemlock trees struck by lightening which lend a very dramatic feel to the landscape. The route keeps snaking up till we reach Lapse where it meets the Mandala – Bhanagajyang road. From here walk on the dirt road till we reach camp at Sange GG. O/n in tents

Day 5Trek: Sange GG to Tsomjuk

If the morning is clear we will get stupendous views of Gorichen and Kangto - the highest peaks in Arunachal.

For the first hour the route keeps traversing on the ridge after which we cross into Eastern Bhutan. The trail continues through the sub alpine landscape gradually descending down to a small river. From here a gentle climb gets us up to the picturesque Tsomjuk lake. O/n in tents

Day 6Trek: Tsomjuk to Dolung

Enjoy a glorious sunrise over the cloud filled valleys spending time to photograph the stupendous landscapes. Our route traverses the east flank of Tsomjuk lake giving us an opportunity to enjoy different views of the lake. Thereafter the trail continues more or less through a leveled terrain before a short climb gets us to Merathakchung.

Our climb continues up a spur offering magnificent views of Dolung lake. Descend down towards the lake from where our camp is a further thirty minute walk. O/n in tents

Day 7Trek: Dolung to Bhangajyang and Dirang drive

A one hour climb from our camp gets us to the ridge which divides Bhutan and India. The ridged offers good views of some more glacial lakes below. On crossing the ridge we are back into India. The remainder of our walk is now on the Mandala – Bhanagajyang dirt road. After walking for an hour on the road we reach the picture perfect Cherp Tso. In another hours time we reach Bhangajyang lake.

Meet our vehicles over here and drive back to Dirang. O/n at Hotel Pemaling or similar

Day 8Dirang to Guwahati

After breakfast drive down to Guwahati. O/n at Baruah Bhavan or similar

After breakfast drop to Guwahati airport
